It Rained Today
It rained today after a long dry spell
excited with joy, I rushed to the woods
barefoot
to hear the sound of the rain
inside the trees
I leaned my ears against the trunks
right ear
left ear
one tree to another
O! the soothing beats of rain water
whirling up the trunks
carried me somewhere
I do not know where
after a while I opened my senses
birds hunting for flooded worms and grubs
seemed noticeably muddled
passers-by stared at me
with a bewildered look on their faces
their dogs woofed at me
I know my way was a disgrace
my ears kept on listening
my ears kept on listening.
